Activities during the Summer

The summer holiday is almost coming to an end, as we are about to enter the last weeks of the summer holiday. Now that almost everyone is back in town, there seems to be a lot going on: special events at the museums, workshops, theatre, educational or active, indoors or outdoors, but most of all; fun! Read our Activities during the Summer in and around Amsterdam. We have listed our favorite places for you;

Outdoor activities

Kinder parade Amsterdam
Kinder Parade Amsterdam
  • De Parade: From august 9 until august 25, the traveling theater will be in Amsterdam at the Martin Luther King Park. Each afternoon there is an extensive programme for children of all ages: the KidsParade (KinderParade), with numerous theatre shows and activities for children. Entrance until 17 years is free of charge. https://deparade.nl/
  • Vondelpark Openlucht Theater: In the summer holidays you can go to a performance in the open air theater every Saturday at 2 p.m. especially for children! For example, you will see performances by Meneer Monster, de Toneelmakerij, de Witte Raaf, de Bonte Hond, and many other theatre groups. https://bit.ly/2Z6CS5q
  • Uitmarkt: From Friday 23 August to Sunday 25 August it will be one big party on Leidseplein and Museumplein during Uitmarkt 2019! There are shows, workshops, performances and more … https://bit.ly/2KzGOaW
  • Fruittuin van West: Here you can pick your own fruit! A beautiful orchard for trotting or watching very quietly what is happening in and around the fruit tree. If you arrive early, you can also collect eggs from the chickens. That way you know for sure that they are fresh! http://fruittuinvanwest.nl/
  • De Natureluur: From pony rides to canoeing and from wood carving to outdoor cooking. In the first and last week of the holiday there are fun kids activities at De Natureluur! https://www.denatureluur.nl/
  • Jazz in het Dorp (Amstelveen): On September 1st in the Old Village of Amstelveen, the popular event Jazz in het Dorp will take place. Jazz in the Village is a cozy, small-scale, accessible and free jazz festival. Different styles of jazz performed by young jazz talents, Amstelveen artists and regional tastemakers. There will be  a kids corner and performances for the little ones like Dirk Scheele. https://www.jazzinhetdorp.nl/programma.html

  • Spoorweg Museum Utrecht (Railway Museum): The educational principle of the Railway Museum is simple: education and experience go hand in hand. From the 17th of August you can visit their ‘Techlab’. A where discovering and experiencing are central. https://bit.ly/30839BO
  • Artis Microbia: Collect your microbes in Micropia! Take a stamp card and make your own microbe collection. During your visit to Micropia you collect the most beautiful or most exciting microbes that you encounter. https://www.micropia.nl/en/
  • Tropenmuseum Junior : A special discovery has been made under the Tropenmuseum. On floor minus 7 in the Surinamese Depot, a hitherto unknown world has been discovered: the World behind Things. A world full of talking objects and activities. https://bit.ly/2KQT5qi
  • Tropen Museum Cool Japan: Enter the world of Hello Kitty, Samurai swords and kawaii, the (‘cute’) fashion from the streets of Tokyo. Exhibition lasts until 1st of September. https://bit.ly/2QbAtDR

If you are planning to visit more than 4 museums a year, it might be worth to consider buying a Museumkaart. This card will give you or your child access to all museums in the Netherlands. www.museumkaart.nl

These were some of our activities during the summer.
We love to hear from your experiences or if you have any tips to share.
