Halloween events around Amsterdam for kids!

Every year, Halloween is becoming more and more popular in the Netherlands. The event is officially celebrated on October 31, but most festivities take place during the whole weekend or even week. Here we present you Halloween events around Amsterdam for kids.

But why do we celebrate Halloween? Once 31 October was the New Year’s Eve of the Celts. Later this Celtic celebration was mixed with the Christian All Souls Day, which is celebrated on November 2. In the 9th century, Christians went by the doors to beg for bread. This results in ‘Trick or Treat’. Around the same period, Catholics celebrated All Saints’ Day (on November 1) and All Souls’ Day (on November 2). The name Halloween was born from these celebrations. Halloween is in fact a derivative of All Hallows Eve, the evening before All Saints’ Day. In the Netherlands, children mainly do St. Maarten (on 11 November) to pick up sweets.

Cut out & decorate pumpkins at Day Foodbar Amstelveen

The dark corridors of Forteiland Pampus

Spooky art at Cobra Museum Amstelveen

During the special exhibition Intense Mexico, children can create their own Mexican fantasy figure on the 23rd and 26th of October 14:00 – 16:00.
